Dear Mrs Tele’a,
My Name is Samoa Koloa and I am 12 years of age. I was born here in Auckland New Zealand, but my nationality is Tongan. I only have one sibling and I am the youngest child in my family. One of my favourite things to do in my spare time is to spend time with my friends and family.
My favourite sports of all times are Rugby, but I also enjoy playing Netball, Softball and Touch. This year will be my last year attending Pt England School. Right now I am currently a Prefect and a year 8 leader of the school, and hoping to achieve more as the year goes.
One of my favourite subject to do at school is Maths, I really enjoy working out problems that are difficult to solve, because it helps me to achieve more in my learning. One of the things I dislike at school is not getting my work finished on time. I also don’t like getting distracted by my classmate while working. Next time I will need to be more focus while doing my work.
I hope that your class and your students comfort you and make you feel welcome. As the year goes I hope that you enjoy your time here in room three. I hope your student's in room three treats you well, and I can't wait to be spending time with you for the next two terms.
This blog is a record of my learning from Pt England School in Auckland, through to Tamaki College.

WALT: Summarising - I make effective notes and condense ideas to summarise
For this weeks activity we got to read the last chapter about holes. At the end it was interesting to find who left and who stayed. It was really interesting to find out what had happened to Stanley and Zero at the end of the movie. unfortunately the book holes has now ended, I am looking forward to a second part of holes.

Force and Motion
This term team five has been learning about Force and Motion. The reason why we are learning about Force and Motion is because it helps us to understand what force and motion means and for others to understand as well.
My group and I only had two ideas, and we couldn’t decide which experiment to do. Our first idea was the Marshmallow Shooter. Then our second idea was the Water Transporter. They were the only two ideas my group and I could think of.
Our first one we did was a Marshmallow shooter and our second one was called The Water Transporter. We tried the marshmallow shooter first outside, and that was a success. Then our second experiment was the Water Transporter, it was also a success. But the issue was that the water transporter took a bit longer than we thought it would.
Was our experiment Successful or was it a failure? Well both of our experiments we tried was a success. Why? Because my group and I followed the instructions carefully, and also my group and I listened very well and knew what we were doing. So I think my group and I did a successful job at our experiment.
Next time we will be more prepared to bring our own equipment and make sure to be ready before the day we present our experiment. Next time we need to come up with more ideas and listen to what other people come up with.

Matariki Day
Happy Matariki day!! If you don’t know what Matariki is, well In Aotearoa it means it is Maori New years. Matariki is also the maori name that represents a group of seven stars. Before I carry on with my writing I would like to fill you in on what Matariki actually means. Matariki doesn’t just mean the Maori New years but It also has two meanings, they both refer as the cluster of stars. So Mata Riki means Tiny eyes, and Mata Airiki means eye of god.
Now let’s carry on, to what happened last week on friday at Pt England School. At Pt England School we had Celebrated Matariki with fun activities for the whole day. There were all sorts of activities like Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Sports, and Movie Making. The whole School was split into either one of those four groups. I was in the Sports Group, With Tyson, Miss Va’afusuaga, Mr Moran and Mr Wiseman. We were split into three groups. One of the sports was Ki O'Rahi with Tyson, and Dodgeball with Mr Moran and then Cooking with Mr Wiseman.
My first rotation for the morning was dodgeball in the hall with Mr Moran. I was so excited to have dodgeball as my first rotation. He first had to number us off and whatever number we get we had to put our bibs on, I was in the green team. Before we played we he gave us some rules, and when he finished that when we began to play. Unfortunately I got out, but it was close to morning tea so we had to stop and have our break.
After Morning tea we continued on with our rotation, our second rotation was Ki O’Rahi with Tyson. It was my first time playing Ki O’Rahi and it was a really fun game, I really suggest this game to you all. We than had to move on and go onto our last rotation, and that was Cooking with Mr Wiseman. We were cooking Funfetti rice krispie treats. It was really sweet but still nice.
We had so Much fun at sports, It was a really good experience getting to know, not just a group of students my year but also students younger than me. I hope you all had a good Matariki day!

Samoan Language Week
Talofa lava It’s Samoan Language Week! Today would be the last day of Samoan Language, and we ended it with an item from the Teuila Kindy and also a group of students from the team 5 block. Although I am not Samoan, I also love learning new words in different language not just Samoan, but also in other different languages.
Before we started with all the performances we had our Usual Karakia and Mihi, and also our National anthem. Our first performance was from the Teuila Kindy. There first performance was the Samoan National anthem. After there Performance, we had another amazing performance from Eden Tuala. And our last Performance was performed by the year 7&8 girls. They were performing to the song La'u Samoa.

The Theme for Samoan Language was Alofa atu nei, Alofa atu taeao. Which also means Kindness given, kindness gained. So when that comes to my mind I think when someone is being kind to you, you should return the favour of being kind back, That way they will know how kind you are! I hope that this theme has given you some idea of what it means to be Kind towards other people. Happy Samoan Language week!!

FiaFia night highlight
On the 12th of April we had our annual FiaFia night. The weather wasn't too great, but we still had an amazing turn out from our students and whanau's. although the weather wasn't too great, we still had an amazing evening! As a MC for the evening along with Tevita, Noah and shenna, I was so proud of how confident and talented they were. Every student that performed looked so beautiful.
This year will be last year attending Pt England School. And I am so glad that I could be a part of the fiafia for 2018! I was so proud to be a part of the Tongan Girls Group. Being in the Tongan girls group and leading the way, is a lot of work, but it all paid off, because our girls went out there and performed there hardiest. Out of every group that performed the Tongan girls had the largest group!Wednesday, 4 April 2018
Letter to the Pak n Save Manager of Glen Innes
Samoa and Kerstein

19th March 2018 Monday
Dear, Manager of glen Innes Pak N Save.
Malo e lelei Manager of Glen Innes Pak N Save,
Our name are Samoa and Kerstein we are both year 8 students at Pt England School. We are very excited to be writing this letter to you. we are writing this letter to let you know that you should think about getting rid of your plastic bags. Kerstein and I have a lot of reasons on why you should get rid of plastic bag, and why we think it is bad for our environment.
Why is it bad to have plastic bags in our environment? Yes why? Well one of our first reasons on why you should consider getting rid of you plastic bags is because plastic bags do not just pollute, but they also affect our water in this land. You might have noticed that plastic bags are not heavy, but they are lightweight so they can float anywhere in the world, which is not good. These plastic can also end up in the trees, fences and also the river!
The second reason why you should get rid of plastic bags is because it is not that easy to recycle. The reason why it is not easy to recycle plastic bags is like, what we just said in our first reason, because it is not heavy but they are lightweight, so they can travel anyway in the world. You never know where the paper might end up, it could end up in the river if you don’t recycle them. Fun fact, the recycling rate for the plastic bags is around 5%.
Last but not least our last reason on why you should ban plastic bags in your store is because, plastic bags are everywhere. For an example your walking to school and you see a bunch on plastic bags, just sitting there floating everywhere. If every store in New Zealand banned plastic bags, then we think it is easier for you managers, because plastic bags are not for free, so you will have to pay for it. If you banned having plastic bags in your stores then you wouldn’t have to worry about getting plastic bags every time you run out.
It has now come to an end to our letter, we are both glad to be writing this letter to the manager of Pak n Save. Kerstein and I have enjoyed writing this letter to you. We hope that our reasons to you were clear for you to read it, and possibly considering to banning the plastic bags.

Visual Mihi
As you can see this is my Visual Mihi, on the top left corner I am proud of who I am, and I am proud to be a Tongan. Next on the Right corner is my family, family is everything to me. And on top of Family, it shows that I love Music. In the bottom left corner is my bible and a little verse that I love reading. It says, "For I know the plans I have for you, Declares the lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"Jeremiah 29:11. Last of all in the right bottom it shows that I am a storms supporter. Hope you like my visual mihi.

Malo e lelei Nicolas Lei,
My Name is Samoa and I am a year 8 student at Pt England School. I know your having
a difficult time at your new school, but today I am here to give you my advice and my
opinion of what I think about my school uniform, and why you should stay at Ferguson
Intermediate school. My Situation was similar to your problem, us girls were so used to
wearing shorts just like the rest of the school, but now we were told to start wearing clots.
When I started wearing clots, I had to get use to wearing it everyday. Eventually I got
used to it, at first I didn’t like it but then I loved it, just like that! So here are some of my
advice on how to get use to wearing uniform. Just keep reading!

My first advice to you is if you really hate your uniform then still go school, but here
is the trick, pretend you love your uniform but actually you don’t. Just keep all the
negative stuff in your mind and say the nice things about the uniform, just so they know
you love being at ferguson and also the uniform. Anyways I’m pretty your uniform
doesn’t look that bad! You would eventually get over how much you don’t like your
uniform, to saying how much you love how your uniform looks on you! If your really
enjoying your time their at your new school, then I suggest staying there! So here’s one
of my opinion to you, Fake it till you make it!

Here is the reason why you should fake it till you make it. reason one is because, I feel
like uniform is way easier to wear to school everyday, rather than worrying about what
clothes to wear everyday. I feel like when everyone's wearing the same uniform it looks
way cleaner, and anyways it’s not a competition about who’s clothes looks better than the
other person. The Most important thing is you attending school and learning something,
and also to have fun, right! Reason 2! When you are presenting a speech or welcoming
visitors to your school, the visitors will know what school your from, and most
importantly how smart and wonderful you look in that uniform. So know matter how
you look we are all the same!

If your still not sure what I’m trying to tell you, well wearing school uniform is important
because teachers can tell who you are, for an example the teacher is trying to look for
you but she can’t find you because, she doesn’t know what you wore to school today.
The teacher might think you have disappeared somewhere but actually, you're still in
the classroom. I know if I was a teacher I would’ve been worried because I can’t find
one of my students.

Nicolas Lei, I have enjoyed writing this to you and also reading your situation. I hope
that some of my advice has helped you to get over how much you dislike your uniform.
I’m pretty sure you have already!

Persuasive writing
This morning we had to complete a presentation about what we think Persuasive writing means. And this is what I have created on my presentation. We had to highlight yellow if we think we agree, and highlight red if we think we do not agree. We then had to give our reason of why we think its the key point.
Persuasive Word Cloud
This week we have been learning about persuasive writing and giving our own thoughts about what we think! First we had to make a doc and write all the ideas we think Persuasive means. Then we had to copy and paste all the words we have wrote and make a word cloud. And so this is what I have Created.
