Mass Shooting response from our Prime Minister.

On the 15th of march a massive shooting took place in New Zealand, Christchurch. It happened such unexpectedly that it has become one of the popular articles around the world. It was such a tragedy that even our prime minister was in shock. To show our respect people would go and leave flowers, to show that they are thinking of those who have lost their loved ones. Our prime minister even visited the mosque to show her respect. Jacinda Ardern even wore a Hijab as part the Muslim religion, They even praised her. Our prime minister Jacinda Ardern has responded to this by making a new law, to keep the Muslim and everyone else safe. There was a photo of our prime minister hugging one of the lady at the mosque, and it has become one of the popular photo's going on around the world. They had also thought of making her one of the most popular front page on a magazine. From my perspective throughout my time here in New Zealand I have never seen a prime minister like Jacinda ,to go out of her busy life to show her respect. And also how she truly cares about this situation that had happened two weeks ago. She has become an idol to other people from doing this.

Dear, Manager of glen Innes Pak N Save.

Our name are Samoa and Kerstein we are both year 8 students at Pt England School. We are very excited to be writing this letter to you. we are writing this letter to let you know that you should think about getting rid of your plastic bags. Kerstein and I have a lot of reasons on why you should get rid of plastic bag, and why we think it is bad for our environment.

Why is it bad to have plastic bags in our environment? Yes why? Well one of our first reasons on why you should consider getting rid of you plastic bags is because plastic bags do not just pollute, but they also affect our water in this land. You might have noticed that plastic bags are not heavy, but they are lightweight so they can float anywhere in the world, which is not good. These plastic can also end up in the trees, fences and also the river!

The second reason why you should get rid of plastic bags is because it is not that easy to recycle. The reason why it is not easy to recycle plastic bags is like, what we just said in our first reason, because it is not heavy but they are lightweight, so they can travel anyway in the world. You never know where the paper might end up, it could end up in the river if you don’t recycle them. Fun fact, the recycling rate for the plastic bags is around 5%.

Last but not least our last reason on why you should ban plastic bags in your store is because, plastic bags are everywhere. For an example your walking to school and you see a bunch on plastic bags, just sitting there floating everywhere. If every store in New Zealand banned plastic bags, then we think it is easier for you managers, because plastic bags are not for free, so you will have to pay for it. If you banned having plastic bags in your stores then you wouldn’t have to worry about getting plastic bags every time you run out.

It has now come to an end to our letter, we are both glad to be writing this letter to the manager of Pak n Save. Kerstein and I have enjoyed writing this letter to you. We hope that our reasons to you were clear for you to read it, and possibly considering to banning the plastic bags.

Labour Day!

Labour day was first celebrated on the 28th of october 1890. New Zealand was one of the first countries to celebrate Labour day. Labour day is a day where people take a day off work. I will be talking to you about why we celebrate Labour day in New Zealand.

back in the days People didn’t get the choice of working less than 10 hours. Sadly some people even worked for 18 hours. Nowadays people around the world celebrate working less than 10 or even 12 hours. That is every year on the 4th of October.

Samuel Parnell is a man who stood up for his work hours to be shorter. Samuel Parnell decided that he would only get a new job as a carpenter,only if he would work for 8 hours a day. Samuel would always go to court to explain why we should work for only 8 hours straight. Because of Samuel Parnell we should all be thankful that we get to have a day off from work, and also from School.

it was fair that New Zealanders was the first to have the rights of claiming the right to have an 8 hour per day. Wellington judges decided for everyone in Aotearoa also known as New Zealand and other countries to have the opportunities to be able to work 8 hours.

And that is why we celebrate Labour day every year. Now you know why labour is always celebrated in New Zealand. What do you think about Labour? After reading all my reasons why then why not just Celebrate it!

Real life heroes. Two girls helping out Samoa:

  Kelsi and Aleisha helping Schools in Samoa

Have you ever been to Samoa? Well I haven’t, but There are two girls who had been helping schools in Samoa. There names are Kelsi and Aleisha. they are also a year 12 student at feilding high school. They had a holiday to Samoa, after they had arrived back to New Zealand they had realized that they should help Samoan Schools. So Kelsi and Aleisha got busy with their Pens and books. So I am going to tell you how they are a hero.

So Kelsi and Alisha wrote letters to all the primary school’s in felding. And so they had been collecting gears, like old computers and books like old school journey and also sports equipment. The mum was also a teacher at feilding high school, and she had access to all the books that they have not been using. And also Aleisha’s little sister was also helping them as well.

Well Aleisha said that, the reason why they are helping Samoa is because in Samoa, in schools the only thing they pay is their Teachers. So that means the books and the pencils they have they have to fundraise themselves to get more equipment. They went to office max which had plenty of spare things, like books and papers. They had spent two days on sorting things out.

Furthermore Aleisha and Kelsi didn’t know how to send it to Samoa. So they were trying to find a way to ship the stuff to Samoa. One of the air force member was really happy that Kelsi and Aleisha had put these things together for Samoa to use. And now all of the equipment has arrived to Samoa. So now they have Books, Sports gear and old computers. They also have selves to put books on. It was worth 75 thousand all because of Aleisha and Kelsi.

And now after they had finished providing equipment to Samoa, they now say that they are back to messing around.  These are two smart girls who didn’t walk away from this situation. And so that was how they became a hero.
