Labour Day!

Labour day was first celebrated on the 28th of october 1890. New Zealand was one of the first countries to celebrate Labour day. Labour day is a day where people take a day off work. I will be talking to you about why we celebrate Labour day in New Zealand.

back in the days People didn’t get the choice of working less than 10 hours. Sadly some people even worked for 18 hours. Nowadays people around the world celebrate working less than 10 or even 12 hours. That is every year on the 4th of October.

Samuel Parnell is a man who stood up for his work hours to be shorter. Samuel Parnell decided that he would only get a new job as a carpenter, only if he would work for 8 hours a day. Samuel would always go to court to explain why we should work for only 8 hours straight. Because of Samuel Parnell we should all be thankful that we get to have a day off from work, and also from School.

it was fair that New Zealanders was the first to have the rights of claiming the right to have an 8 hour per day. Wellington judges decided for everyone in Aotearoa also known as New Zealand and other countries to have the opportunities to be able to work 8 hours.

And that is why we celebrate Labour day every year. Now you know why labour is always celebrated in New Zealand. What do you think about Labour? After reading all my reasons why then why not just Celebrate it!
