Scratch

Throughout the few weeks of digital, we were able to do some coding using scratch. I was fortunate enough to finish this part of coding and was able to use the right blocks to create a game. For each level, we had to screenshot every part of the coding we did to show proof that we understand the steps given to us. Throughout the first few steps, It was difficult because it was my first time using scratch but then as I started to understand the instructions given to me I was able to understand the coding a bit more. Some of the blocks I used were used repeatedly and easy to use. I was also able to experience some difficulties throughout the coding but once I understood what was going wrong with my coding I was able to fix it and make the game work. At the end of the coding, I was able to learn some things from scratch. I was able to understand how the technology works so that I am prepared for the future. As well as solving problems and getting a better understanding of how computers and devices work.

Cells

In Science we have been learning about the living world, Animal and Plant cells. The things that are in the animals cells are, Nucleus, Cell membrane, mitochondria, cytoplasm, vacuole and nuclear membrane. The only things that is different from each cell is that the plant cell requires more things such as, cell wall, chloroplast and large vacuole. We then had to draw a animal cell and plant cell, we then had to label them in the correct order.  We then had to describe the different types of parts and function of a cell. 

We then used a microscope and put it through a leaf to see what it would look like.  We took some photos, and it was really interesting to see the leaf close up. We used three different types of leaf, that my teacher grabbed from outside my classroom. We put the microscope at the back of our phones, then placed the phone on the different types of leaves to see the difference between the three leafs that we took. 

Empathy - what does empathy mean?

For me empathy means to be able to understand and also care about how someone else feels. Personally I think empathy means to put yourself in there shoe, that way you could understand the kind of situation they might experienced. If I was to show empathy towards my classmates or anyone around me, I would ask them if they are alright.  That way they would know that you truly care about their feelings and the situation they are in right now.  Empathy is important because it can help people understand why in that kind of situation.  They could help you by making sure your alright, or even hang out with you so know that your not alone.  You could also show your gratitude when they have opened up.  Many people struggle to open up to people, because they overthink things like "could I trust you".  Show that your interested, that way when they going through a difficult time you could connect with them by asking them if they need anything, or if they will be alright.

Climate Change - Summarie

From reading this article I have learnt that when you are from a place that is dangerous, people tend to move to other countries due to their homes being damaged by the water rising.  They also heard good things about another country and decides to move with their families to live in a better place and a better future.  People who are residents of their countries have rights to do anything in that country, and move to another country after losing their homes. There are many families who are threatened by their government to leave the country that they migrated from immediately. Most cultures are ethnocentric judging from this article I think we have different behaviours, customs and religion.

Science Experiance

We had the opportunity to try out an experience using, backing soda, food colouring and vinegar.  It was a little experience showing what it would look like if we add baking soda into a vinegar.  In my group was Sabrina, Myztique, Jonathan and Walter.  It was a great experience, especially when it's our first experience in science.  I felt like everyone in my group enjoyed our experience, here is a snippet of how our experience turned out. 

My coat of arms

I think every person has their own identity and beauty.  Well this is my identity. To show my identity I used a coat of arms, to indicate all the things that I value the most.  I value my family because they are my number one supporters. There is no better support system than family. Whether I’m feeling down, or it’s a fight with a significant others, they are always there to put a smile on my face.  I also value school, without education we wouldn’t have a point of view of what our future would look like. Self care, I value myself, why? Because we don’t realise how important we are. I’m a really goofy and loud person, so I love to make people smile as while as myself.  Finally my friends, they are very important to me because they help solve problems, and keeps me stronger. Here are two key words I keep with me, Believe and Integrity. They are just there to encourage me to keep going. This is my coat of arms, hope you enjoyed it.

Malo e lelei and welcome to my first blog for 2019!  Today I would be giving you a short description of what me and my class has been up to, for the past few weeks here in social studies.  This documentary is about two mens who take this journey to find our where their ancestors originated from.  Oscar and Nathan travelled around the pacific ocean to visit different sorts of places.  They also visit their families where they reveal their true ethnicities through a DNA test.  One of the things I enjoyed the most was knowing that every pacific island are very similar to each other.  The most interesting part about the documentary, was getting to see the seven wakas in Rarotonga where our Polynesians left their canoe to travel to Aotearoa.  They then ended their journey in Taiwan where they find out, their ancestors was originated from there.  

Social Sciences

This morning the year 8 student went to Tamaki college to experience being a year 9 for a day. We were learning about Social Science with the awesome Ms Apelu. Is it important to learn about people? Well I think It's important because when someone is asking you something, then It's easier for you to respond back to the teacher. We then Played a quick game and name the places I see, from around the world. 

Talk with Mr Patterson and Raenan

This Morning we had two special visitors come to team 5 to talk to us about Aspiration, Inspiration and Motivation! Our two special visitors was Mr Patterson and Raenan. Raenan is a former student at Pt England School. He came to talk to us about, what it was like being a year 9 for the first time. At Tamaki College he was announced as a deputy Head boy. When he first started college he set his goal to be a head boy, and after 4 years his goal was a success! 

Mr Patterson showed us a video about a boy who attends Manurewa High School. His Name is Dwight. In the video he talked about how his father went to prison for 8 years. His father was part of the Mongrel Mob Gang. Dwight isn't a confident speaker, But it was interesting to hear about his past life with his father.  

Raenan also talked about how it was his first time being a year 9 at Tamaki College. He Talked about how he joined the geek club. He took every Opportunity that was open for him. Raenan was also in the New Zealand Herald. He also got the opportunity to go to a boat with other kids for ten days. It was a really good experience for him. The last thing he said to us was to take as many opportunities because it could take you somewhere.
